Job Summary
Join NetApp’s innovative ONTAP Security Engineering development organization as a Systems Software Engineer in our team, where you are responsible for designing and delivering the core security capabilities that safeguard the ONTAP data management platform across cloud, hybrid‑cloud, and on‑premises environments. You will build foundational security features that protect customer data, strengthen platform resilience, and ensure compliance with industry and government standards.
As a seasoned software engineer, you will be part of a team of passionate, skilled security and distributed‑systems engineers to design, implement, test, and harden security‑critical components within ONTAP. You will contribute across the full development lifecycle—including design reviews, threat modeling, secure coding, debugging, automated testing, and long‑term maintainability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex software challenges and optimize performance, all while contributing to the evolution of secure technologies in a rapidly advancing digital landscape.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead small to medium feature deliveries, participating in the full software development lifecycle with ownership of design, implementation, testing, integration, and code quality.
- Deliver reliable, innovative storage and data‑management products.
- Design and implement software in C/C++ with emphasis on simplicity, reliability, manageability, and maintainability.
- Participate in product design, development, verification, troubleshooting, and delivery of systems or major subsystems, including authoring specifications.
- Write unit tests and automated integration tests; develop and maintain Python‑based test automation and frameworks.
- Conduct and participate in technical discussions within the team and cross‑functional groups.
- Facilitate technical discussions and present designs and technical updates to engineering leadership.
Job Requirements
- Strong C/C++ software development experience (analysis, design, implementation, testing)
- Object-oriented systemsprogramming
- Familiarity with Unix based operating system kernels and development environments, e.g. Linux or FreeBSD.
- Experienceworking with file systems, distributed systems, client-server programming, multi-threaded applications,and operatingsystems such as FreeBSD,Linux
- Strong grasp of computer architecture, data structures, algorithms, and standard programming practices
- Demonstrated creative and systematic approach to problem solving
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability towork under limited supervision anddirection
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards
- Knowledge of network and at-rest encryption, key management, IPsec or other security related areas is a plus.
- Experience with Python, REST API, Cloud, and Virtualization environments is a plus
Education & Experience
• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience in addition to a Bachelor's degree in a related technical or engineering field.
• Additional experience above the stated minimum requirements may be considered in place of a Bachelor's degree.
