Software Engineer 4
Job Summary
The office of the Chief Platform and Technology Officer (CPTO) is seeking the most highly skilled, experienced, creative, and productive Software Engineers with breadth and depth in both ONTAP and other storage systems. From cutting-edge storage and data management, to replication and HA technologies, to SAN/block, operating system, distributed systems, and computer science fundamentals, the successful candidate will have a deep background in advanced computer science and a willingness to jump into any code path.
This role is hands-on and execution-focused. You will contribute directly to the design and development of new storage features and capabilities, work closely with senior engineers and technical leaders, and collaborate with teams across ONTAP and NetApp to turn ideas into working software. You will be expected to take ownership of projects with some ambiguity and rapidly deliver code and results which move concepts from prototype to production readiness.
This team will do forward-looking research and investigations, develop proofs-of-concept, and drive some projects to MVP, often in tight partnership with mainstream engineering teams. You will play a pivotal role by both rolling up your sleeves to design and develop what comes next for NetApp as well as running projects, collaborating with engineers across ONTAP, and mentoring others inside and outside of the group.
Just as important as the skills and knowledge, however, will be attitude. The successful candidate will demonstrate a growth mindset for themselves, their team, and NetApp. They will possess an insatiable curiosity, persistent open-mindedness, balance optimism and realism, and be relentless in their pursuits. Be bold in your ideas, grounded in your approach, make smart investments, knowing that some will fail-fast but others will drive the company forward.
