Job Summary

NetApp is seeking an experienced Director, Legal to serve as the senior legal business partner for our Go‑to‑Market, Public Cloud, Marketing, and Customer Success organizations. In this role, you will provide strategic, business‑oriented legal guidance that enables growth while managing risk across a global, partner‑driven, cloud‑enabled technology business.

This role reports to the Vice President, Field Legal and includes people leadership responsibility for a team of four U.S.-based attorneys. You will work closely with senior leaders across Sales, Partners, Marketing, Customer Support, Professional Services, Finance, Deal Desk, and other cross‑functional teams.

This is a U.S.-based hybrid role located in RTP, Vienna (VA), or San Jose (CA), and may require occasional travel.

What You'll Do

  • Go‑to‑Market & GROE Legal Support

    • Act as the lead legal advisor to NetApp’s GROE (GTM Strategy, Revenue, Offers & Enablement) organization, which drives global go‑to‑market strategy, revenue execution, pricing and offers, and sales enablement.
    • Advise on legal and risk considerations for global sales motions, offers, incentives, pricing initiatives, and enablement programs.
    • Support NetApp’s worldwide partner organization, including partner programs, partner‑led sales models, and partner‑delivered services.

    Public Cloud & Commercial Transactions

    • Provide legal guidance for public cloud and consumption‑based offerings.
    • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including cloud services, managed services, software, professional services, and related technology transactions.
    • Partner with Sales, Deal Desk, Finance, and Product teams to enable deals while maintaining appropriate risk controls.

    Marketing Legal Support

    • Review and advise on marketing and communications initiatives, including public‑facing content, campaigns, analyst briefings, press releases, and brand partnerships.
    • Draft and negotiate complex sponsorship agreements and other marketing‑related commercial agreements.
    • Support marketing, communications, and analyst relations teams on legal considerations related to promotional activities and global campaigns.

    Customer Success (Support & Professional Services)

    • Provide legal support for NetApp’s Customer Success organization, with a focus on customer support and professional services.
    • Advise on services‑related matters, including service delivery, contract interpretation, amendments, escalations, renewals, and customer lifecycle issues.
    • Partner with services, support, and operations leaders to resolve complex customer and delivery challenges.

    Leadership & Enablement

    • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of four attorneys.
    • Drive consistency and scalability through templates, playbooks, training, and process improvements.
    • Champion automation and AI‑enabled tools to streamline legal workflows and increase efficiency.
    • Collaborate with Legal colleagues and subject‑matter experts (privacy, trade compliance, litigation) as needed.

    What You Bring

    • Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
    • 12+ years of legal experience, including substantial in‑house experience at a technology company.
    • Deep experience with commercial, cloud, SaaS, and services‑related technology transactions.
    • Demonstrated success leading and developing legal professionals.
    • Strong business judgment, executive presence, and ability to translate legal risk into practical, actionable guidance.
    • Experience supporting global, partner‑driven go‑to‑market models strongly preferred.
